Could the Minnesota Vikings be preparing to make a splash in the secondary just ahead of the NFL Draft? Recent reports indicate that the Vikings are among the teams linked to Indianapolis Colts Pro Bowl cornerback Kenny Moore II, who has formally requested a trade.
Cornerback remains a pressing topic for Vikings fans. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores has shown creativity, often relying on his safeties and even keeping just three cornerbacks on the roster after training camp. As the draft approaches, questions persist about whether the team has enough talent and depth at the position, especially as rosters shift and trade possibilities emerge.
The latest buzz comes from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, who identifies both the Dallas Cowboys and Vikings as logical destinations for Moore. The 30-year-old cornerback, who turns 31 this summer, is recognized for his versatility and elite play in the slot. That skill set could fit seamlessly into Flores’ defensive scheme. Breer highlights Moore’s ability to work as a nickelback as a strong match for Minnesota’s system.
Moore has a proven track record of making plays. Last season, he recorded 55 tackles (three for loss), 1.5 sacks, one interception, six pass deflections, and two forced fumbles across 14 games and seven starts. Over his nine-year career with Indianapolis, Moore has started 111 of 132 games, demonstrating both durability and consistency. He has also served as a team captain for four years and was the Colts’ nominee for the NFL Man of the Year award.
Why is Moore available? With Sauce Gardner now in Indianapolis, the Colts appear comfortable moving on from their longtime nickel specialist, provided they receive something in return. Moore is entering a contract year, which could slightly lower his trade value. Breer suggests that a Day 3 pick, on the higher end, might be enough to secure a deal. For a team like Minnesota, which needs more depth at cornerback, that price could be appealing.
The Vikings are not lacking in top-end starters. Byron Murphy and Isaiah Rodgers delivered solid production last season, and James Pierre recently joined the group as another depth option. However, with only three corners kept on the final roster cutdown last year, any additional help—especially from a player as experienced as Moore—would be welcomed by fans eager to see how the defense can evolve.
Minnesota is not alone in its interest. Dallas is reportedly in the mix as well, following Jourdan Lewis’s departure last year. Both teams offer an NFC destination for Moore, which could be preferable for Indianapolis if the Colts want to avoid strengthening an AFC rival.
As draft week nears, rumors are swirling about potential trades across every position group. The Vikings are expected to be aggressive at the top of this year’s draft order as they address urgent offensive needs. Still, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah may also be looking to reinforce the back end of his defense.
All eyes are now on Minnesota to see if the team will make Kenny Moore II the next key addition to Brian Flores’ evolving defense.
