Andy Robertson has offered a candid assessment of Mohamed Salah’s impact at Liverpool while addressing his own future ahead of Scotland’s friendly against Japan at Hampden Park. The Scotland captain’s comments come amid growing speculation about both Salah’s potential Liverpool departure and Robertson’s expiring contract.
Robertson, who joined Liverpool in 2017, spoke to the media on Friday with his club future a prominent topic. The left-back’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, and after reported talks with Tottenham in January, expectations have increased that he could leave on a free transfer. However, Robertson stated that no final decision has been made regarding his next move.

The 30-year-old also pointed to Salah’s decisive role during challenging periods for Liverpool, particularly last season. “If you look back at last season he pretty much carried us on his back at times… the numbers he produced were just ridiculous,” Robertson noted, underscoring the forward’s influence during critical stretches.

He acknowledged that Kenny Dalglish likely remains the greatest, but placed Salah firmly in the elite tier just below that. “I don’t think there’s any doubt of how much of a legend he’s at the football club… he’s in the conversation of best players ever to play for the football club,” Robertson stated. Pressed further, he elaborated: “Kenny probably pips him… but then behind that you have three or four players… and Mo Salah definitely comes into that conversation.”
Robertson concluded by highlighting the privilege of sharing both a professional and personal relationship with Salah: “To be able to call him a teammate but also call him a friend… it’s an absolute privilege… he’ll get the send-off he deserves because he’s a Premier League legend, but he’s definitely a Liverpool legend.”
